When Going Thru Hell Keep Going
Even when you don't know how to exit thru the gift shop
When you're in the middle of hell — the worst thing you can do is stop and settle. To keep living in pain, to invest in a property in the burning neighborhoods. If you are going to get out you need to keep walking. One foot in front of the other. Even when you can't see the end, even when you don't *believe* there is one, when faith is just a word you have heard but not learned. You don't need to see the exit to walk toward it. You just need to refuse to stop. You got to find that faith within you. You get many shots, but you got to make them count as best you can, even if missing only means you recalibrate your aim.
Well — this is why learning to walk matters. Because it's precisely the walking that carries you through. Not having finished walking, not being good at it, not doing it gracefully — just keeping on. Unsteady, stumbling, one step at a time. That's enough. That's all it takes. That's what you do.
And look at what you've actually done, this week, this half-year, whatever: you've walked through something that was a kind of hell. A thing that died from the inside, needs that were brushed aside, support you never got. Knives in your back still bleeding. Moving. Starting again with a wound you barely have words for. And you didn't stop. You kept walking. Stumbled, got up, went on. A patchy scorecard, not a ten out of ten, but it reads passed. You're walking in hell, but you keep walking. And that's exactly right - it's a place you walk through.
Feeling hope again. That's all walking. You're on your way out, not because it's stopped hurting, but because you refuse to stand still in it. Don't pretend it isn't heavy — it's allowed to feel heavy. But there is something on the other side. You've already felt glimpses of it: the hope, laughing at yourself, the flow with a stranger, the longing for something warm. Those are light leaking in from the exit you're searching for.
One more step. And then one more. You're already doing it. You've been doing it the whole way. Faith is growing with each step you take. Keep going. You got this.
